A wooden wardrobe is an essential piece for a mudroom or bedroom, especially when closet space is limited in a home. The wardrobe provides extra storage space with an attractive shell. Although wardrobes are typically pieces people spend money on to purchase from a furniture store, they’re relatively simple to make from home, helping you to save hundreds of dollars on a beautifully-crafted wood wardrobe.

Our article is going to teach you how to make a simple wooden wardrobe closet that you can use for clothing or other storage needs. You won’t need to spend a fortune on materials, but the result will look as if you had!

Making Your Own Wood Wardrobe

A DIY wooden wardrobe can be an excellent addition to the home. Wardrobe closets help hide items from public view while placing them in an attractive and functional furniture piece.

Some wooden wardrobes can be complicated to make on your own, especially when you get into wood crafting details with special tools. But, our wood wardrobe is easy to put together, especially if you enlist the help of a friend, and will look sleek and modern. And, if you’re wondering how to paint a wooden wardrobe when you’re finished, we’ll also give you some tips to do so.

In What Ways Can I Use a Wood Wardrobe?

Wardrobes come in all shapes and sizes to meet your storage needs. Some have shelving and drawers inside, while others have hanging rods for clothes or a combination of the two. The wardrobe is one of the most versatile pieces of furniture you can have in your home.

Wardrobes have long been a staple in bedrooms, especially in those with small closets. You can place a wardrobe on an empty wall near a full-length mirror to give yourself some extra space for clothing.

Some wardrobes have a long, empty space to hang clothing, with a shelf or two near the top to place some folded clothes, blankets, or extra pillows. Other wardrobes contain mostly shelving for folded clothes, crafts, or any extra items you need storage space for. Some people place a set of wardrobes on either side of the TV to store gaming systems, movies, and other electronics neatly away.

Can I Customize My Wardrobe?

Absolutely! The beauty of this project is that it’s simple. You can play around with our suggested measurements to build a wooden wardrobe that’s taller, wider, deeper, or has different types of storage inside. Our plans for this wooden wardrobe will help you create a basic shell from which you can customize the inside to meet your needs Florinef online. If you have basic math skills, you can add shelving, adjust internal rod heights, and even add drawers where you need them.

Painting or Staining the Wardrobe

You can also customize the look of your wardrobe easily if you don’t like the look of unfinished wood. Painting or staining your wardrobe can help the piece fit into your design seamlessly by matching its finish to the other furniture in your home.

You can paint or stain the wardrobe after you’ve completed its assembly, but be sure to do so in a well-ventilated area. If you want to stain it, you should first protect your hands with gloves and your eyes with safety goggles. Test your stain on a piece of wood you don’t need to make sure you like the color. Apply the stain with a staining cloth or brush in even layers, allowing each coat to dry completely before starting another.

If you want to paint your wardrobe, you should first sand the wood to smooth any rough spots. Remove any residue from sanding and then paint primer on the full wardrobe, including the inside if you want to paint it. Then, apply your first coat of latex paint. Allow each coat to dry completely, which usually takes about two hours, before applying more. If you’re unsure about a flat or semi-gloss paint, start with a flat finish. You can always add a transparent gloss, or a top coat of zenegra 50 mg.

Instructions for a DIY Wood Wardrobe

Our wooden wardrobe plans are so simple that even a beginner can handle it. But, it’s a good idea to have a friend assist you since the pieces can be bulky and difficult to maneuver with just one person. These plans will create a wardrobe that’s six feet in height and three feet across, but you can ask your local hardware or lumber shop to cut the wood to your size needs.

Materials Needed:

  • Two 1” x 20” pieces of wood, 72” in length (These will be the side panels)
  • Three 1” x 20” pieces of wood, 36” in length (These will be the top of the wardrobe and the bottom and middle shelving pieces)
  • One 1” x 38” piece of wood, 72” in length (This will become the back panel)
  • Two 2” x 19” pieces of wood, 72” in length (These will be the doors)
  • Wooden rod, 42” in length and 1” in diameter
  • Several 2” wood screws

How to Make It:

Step 1

Take both of your side panels and measure to the center of them. Place a mark here and then measure 6” down. Use your 1” drill bit to create holes on both panels for the rod. These ends will be the top of your side panels.

Step 2

On the bottom of each side panel move up 6” and mark that spot. This is where your bottom shelf will be. Use a ruler to mark a straight line across. Take one of the shelving pieces (36” boards) and align it with your line. Then, drill three screws, one in the middle and two about 2” from the edges, from the side panel into the shelf. Repeat this for the other side panel.

Step 3

Use a ruler to measure 12” from the top of the bottom shelf. Mark this spot on both side panels and use your ruler to create a straight line across. This is where your middle shelf will be. Use the same method in step 2 to affix this shelf.

Step 4

The third 36” board will be the top. Place it between the side panels so that it is flush with the top of the sides. Drill three screws on each side through the side panels and into the top panel.

Step 5

Drill the back panel onto the back of the unit, using several screws on the top and sides. You should notice that the unit feels very sturdy once you’ve secured this panel onto the back.

Step 6

Now, you’ll assemble the doors on the unit. Lay the door panels on the floor to prepare the hinges. Place the hinges where you want them on the doors, ideally about five or six inches from the top and bottom of the doors. Mark off the holes with a pencil, making a full circle for the holes so that you can align them easily when you attach the doors.

Step 7

Hold up a door to a side panel, place a hinge in its proper spot on the door, and then place it where it needs to be on the side panel. Again, mark the holes with a pencil. Do the same for the other door and side panel.

Step 8

Attach the hinges to the side panels with included screws by aligning the screw holes with the marked holes.

Step 9

Hold a door in place, in its open position, by a side panel and attach the hinge screws to the door. Repeat with the other door.

Step 10

Insert the wooden rod into the holes you previously drilled on the side panels.

This wardrobe is one that you can adjust sizes easily to fit the needs of your space. You can also create more shelving by adding more boards inside or take out the rod altogether to build a wardrobe filled with shelving. Or, add some organizing baskets onto the shelves for additional storage for small items, like socks, makeup, or scarves. Shoes can fit conveniently underneath the bottom shelf.

If you prefer an open wardrobe, omit the doors. You can even insert an adjustable, no-hardware curtain rod at the top of your wardrobe closet with a curtain that matches your décor for a unique look without adding complicated hinges and doors.
